Brachychiton discolor - Lacebark Tree
Lacebark Tree is a gorgeous, easy-going tree from Australia. The perfect shade tree, it has a straight trunk and a broad canopy of fluttering leaves. In late spring, it explodes with intensely pink flowers that cover the branches. As they fall, they make a lovely pink carpet.
Handsome year round, Lacebark Tree is so well-behaved it's much used as a street tree in temperate zones 9-11. It thrives in full sun, most any soil, and is quite drought tolerant. It also makes an extraordinary bonsai.
The large seeds sprout easily. Plant them 1/4" deep in moist potting soil or perlite and keep warm (80F). They'll germinate in a few weeks.
