Cereus peruvianus - Peruvian Torch
This stately giant comes from South America. A striking blue color, its smooth ribbed columns grow quickly to 10'-20', a standout in any garden. Very easy to have around, it isn't too spiny, tolerates heat, drought, light shade, serious cold and it grows fast enough to be used as a fence.
After a good rainfall, Peruvian Torch puts out gigantic nocturnal white blossoms, lots of them. Edible red fruits follow full of crunchy black seeds.
If you're a cactus collector, this is the species of choice for grafting. For the rest of us, this is an easy, handsome plant for any xeriscape garden. It grows easily from seed.
