Watermelon Radish - Asian Heirloom

$1.99

This fancy Asian heirloom is dazzling gourmet cooks everywhere. Outside, it looks like a white turnip with green shoulders. Slice it open and find a magenta center that looks like stained glass. So gorgeous it doesn't even have to taste good, Watermelon Radish is sweet, delicious and gets milder as it matures.

An Asian classic for centuries, there it's known as Shinrei, Misato, or Xin Li Nei. Spectacular as an appetizer, garnish or sliced in salads, it can be sauteed, stir-fried, or cooked like a turnip. Before the foodies discovered it, this Asian heirloom was well kept secret.

Watermelon Radish is a cool weather vegetable, will mature in 29 days, but can stay in the ground a long time without becoming woody. Its flowers are edible, too. Plant seeds in fall or early spring. You'll have dazzlers in a few weeks.
